Hewn
Considered boutique interior with natural daylight, folded linen and wool garments on warm wooden surfaces

A considered edit

The shop is the edit.

Hewn is a small boutique on Queen West. We carry considered clothing, accessories, and home goods from independent makers, the kind of pieces you keep for a decade.

Shop by category

A small, slowly rotating selection.

We rotate inventory by season, but most pieces stay in the shop for years. The categories below cover what we currently carry.

The edit

The shop is the curator.

Hewn began with a frustration. Most boutiques look like inventory displays. The thing we love about a small shop, the curator's hand, the considered edit, the reason a particular wool sweater sits next to a particular ceramic vessel, never makes it to the website.

Read our approach

Material integrity

We carry pieces made by small studios with direct relationships to their mills, tanners, and weavers. Every garment in the shop has a supplier story we can tell you in person.

Slow seasons

We do not chase trends. We carry brands whose silhouettes change slowly and whose materials are built for repair. A piece bought from us this autumn will still be in our shop, in the same form, three autumns from now.

Independent only

Every brand we carry is independently owned and operates at small scale. The owners cut, sew, and finish their own work, or work with mills they know by name.

The store is the curator

We choose every piece by hand. If we cannot defend why something is in the shop, it is not in the shop. The edit is the product.
